Recommendations for Training the Next Generation of Clinical Psychologists: Discussion

We are thrilled to announce the publication of “Accelerating the Rate of Progress in Reducing Mental Health Burdens: Recommendations for Training the Next Generation of Clinical Psychologists,” a joint effort by a number of CAAPS members to provide a vision for the future of clinical psychology doctoral training

You can find a copy of the pre-print here. The authors argue that current training models in psychology are not doing enough to address mental illness burdens and instead propose a shift in the breadth of roles taken on by clinical psychologists. In helping to better prepare trainees to serve in these broader roles, the authors propose a flexible, two-phase model of training.

We are eager to discuss this proposal with stakeholders. We invite folks to share their thoughts and engage in dialogue regarding the what and how’s of this proposal in the following discussion posts:

(3) Other ideas and creative solutions to the discussed problems.
